Block NC 188/ NC189
ONGC Videsh Ltd. has acquired 49% stake in two onshore exploration
blocks i.e. NC-188 (located in Ghadames basin) and NC-189 (Sirte
basin) in Libya. Turkish Petroleum Overseas Company (TPOC) a subsidiary
of Turkish national oil company holds the rest of 51% participating
interest and act as the operator. The exploration and production-sharing
agreement with the Government of Libya was entered into in February
2000 and has initial exploration phase of five years and production
period of 25 years.
After completing the 2D and 3D seismic surveys in both the blocks
as per the programme, two exploratory wells were drilled in Block
NC-188 during 2003-04, which were plugged and abandoned as dry wells.
The exploration phase currently extended till 11th June 2009 along
with shifting of one of the remaining well to drill in Block NC-189
besides the two of its own commitment wells. During 2007 acquision
of about 500 LKM of additional 2D seismic data is planned besides
drilling of one well on Platform area of Block NC-189 in Sirte Basin
Block 81-1
ONGC Videsh has been awarded exploration Block 81-1 located in onshore
Ghadames Basin, Libya. The block measuring area of 1,809 sq. km.
is situated close to discovered oil field. The Exploration and Production
Sharing Agreement (EPSA) is effective from 10th December 2005. As
per the minimum work commitment, OVL is required to complete acquisition
of 500 km of 2D and 500 sq. km. of 3D seismic data and drilling
of one exploration well in the block over a period of five-year
exploration phase. OVL is operator and holds 100% participating
interest in the block.
OVL plans to acquire the 2D and 3D seismic data in the current year
of 2007 for which Environment Impact Analysis (EIA) has been completed.
Contract Area 43
ONGC Videsh Ltd. signed Exploration and Production Sharing Agreement
(EPSA) with National Oil Corporation of Libya for Contract Area
43 on 5th March 2007 at Tripoli. The Contract Area 43 was awarded
to OVL in the recently concluded 3rd Bid Round. The Contract Area
consisting of four blocks measuring total area of 7,449 sq km located
in Cyrenaica offshore in the Mediterranean Sea. The block boundaries
extend from the coastline to the water depth of about 2,200 m.
For the Contract Area 43, OVL has work programme of acquiring new
seismic data minimum of 1000 km of 2D and 4000 sq. km. of 3D and
drilling of one exploratory well during the exploration phase of
five years. Presently about two third of the Contract Area has sparse
coverage of 2D seismic data which was acquired earlier. There is
also an exploration well drilled at the south west boundary in shallow
water during 1984 was plugged and abandoned which had gas shows.
