K S Jamestin takes charge as Director Human Resource of ONGC

Shri KS Jamestin has taken charge as Director Human Resources, ONGC on May 25,2011. He has over three and a half decades of multifaceted experience in Human resource development, Project management, business development, operation and maintenance of oil field installations, engineering, design and instrumentation.

Shri Jamestin is a B. Tech in Engineering, with an MBA in Finance, and Diplomas in Operations Management and a Senior Executive program with Indian School of Business. He is also a certified Project manager from PMI, USA.

He started his career in ONGC in 1977 as a Graduate Trainee, and has since worked in most Work Centres of ONGC like Mumbai Offshore, Assam, Southern Sector, Dehradun and at Corporate Headquarters.

One of the most credible achievements Shri Jamestin is associated with is Project ICE, the largest SAP project in Asia, where he rolled out SAP, within budget and right on schedule, across all functions and locations of ONGC, through an international award winning initiative. For this, he was conferred CMD’s special appreciation award, given so only to 3 exceptional performers, in ONGC history.

During his stint as Chief HRD, he took initiative for large scale recruitments. He ushered in an era of efficiency by on line computerization of processes like transfers, promotions, recruitments, selection examinations for new entrants etc. The very successful online Performance Appraisal System (EPAR) and the Employee Self Service Portal, SAMPARC are Shri Jamestin’s brainchild projects. He is also credited for introducing the new sports policy of ONGC.

Project Management is one of his strong points. Shri Jamestin was the chief architect of the Rs. 850 crore PROMISE project, and most of the other IT projects of ONGC.

Shri Jamestin articulates well and is an effective communicator. With his management training in Finance, established empathy towards employee issues, wide spanning exposure and experience over 34 years in all walks of ONGC’s activities like Offshore & Onshore, HRD and Employee Relations, IR and Project Management, Shri Jamestin would steer HR functions on the board of ONGC.

A brief summary of Shri K S Jamestin’s professional experience is given below:

He has been Head Regional Office, Mumbai till recently before he took over as OSD-HR at Delhi. Heading the Administrative, HRD and Employee Relations functions for the whole of Mumbai Region of ONGC, he was also responsible for Industrial relations, training & development, Regional training centre, I.T. and Infocom, Security function for the entire offshore and onshore installations and facilities, Legal Department, Corporate Communications, Employee Communications, Recruitment and promotions, Medical department, Regional Sports, Liaison with state administration etc.

As Chief HRD, ONGC Shri Jamestin headed the HRD function for entire ONGC and was responsible for all Human Resource Development activities, HR planning and policies, career development, talent management, recruitment & promotions, placements, transfers, training and development needs of a multidisciplinary work force of about 33,400. Special achievements during his tenure were the implementation of SAP HR, fully integrated with Enterprise wide SAP based ERP, implementation of SAMPARC ESS portal on SAP, fully online transfer process and online promotion process. He developed a comprehensive sports policy for ONGC and introduced the practice of Annual Business games, to enhance employee engagement.

As Program/Project Manager for the ICE project, he headed a multidisciplinary team and implemented SAP based ERP for ONGC covering all business functions at all locations. One of the largest ERP Projects in Asia, it was completed on schedule and won the SAP jury award for best project in 2005.

Shri Jamestin has extensive hands on experience in Project management and contracting, in handling a variety of large projects in areas like Maintenance, IT, Communication, SCADA, Process Control and Instrumentation, Marine survey and Environment Management.

He has worked in different capacities at various work centers of ONGC like Dehradun, Mumbai High, Assam ,Chennai ,Karaikal ,Rajahmundry etc. handling cross functional assignments involving high value IT, Telecommunication and Process control Projects, Engineering and Offshore Construction, Marine survey, Contract Management, Environment management.

Shri K.S. Jamestin's contributions include implementing CSR policies and effecting a sea change in the quality of work and living conditions of employees. His dedicated efforts towards increasing employee satisfaction and reducing grievances thereby increasing the pace of employee deliverables have won him several accolades. He has also settled long pending legal cases saving man hours and expenses for ONGC. He has been a frontrunner for the cause of superannuated employees and simplified processes and practices for ensuring them the best services of the organization.

For his outstanding achievements, Shri K.S. Jamestin has been the recipient of HR Leadership Award at the 19 th Global HR Excellence Awards this year.
