H.E. the President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, visited Khartoum, Sudan, from 20th – 22th October 2003. ONGC Nile Ganga BV (ONGBV) executives were associated with organization and conduct of the visit. It was an unique opportunity for ONGBV executives to meet the President along with MD, ONGC Videsh Ltd. (OVL), Mr. Atul Chandra. The President was familiarized with the Greater Nile Oil Project (GNOP), Sudan oil-field facilities by MD, OVL through a photographic journey. The President was very appreciative of the oil-field facilities and infrastructure.
In the presence of the Presidents of India and Sudan, the following Agreements were signed:
a) Bilateral Investment Promotion & Protection Agreement (BIPA)
b) Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA)
c) MOU on Cooperation in Communications and Information Technology.
President Kalam also visited the IT Library in Khartoum University which was donated by OVL. This Library was inaugurated by MD, OVL on 30 August 2003. This virtual IT Library allows students to access thousands of latest books from their desktop computer. MD, OVL and ED, ONGBV were also invited to the Presidential banquet on 21st October 2003.
