|Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas honours CWG 2010 Award Winners|

In order to lend recognition to their performance and convey to the players that we hold you in high esteem and value your contribution to achieve National pride, Hon'ble Minister of P&NG Mr. Murli Deora had announced a cash prize of 10 Lakhs, 7.50 Lakhs and 5.00 Lakhs for Gold, Silver & Bronze respectively for all medal winners of Indian Contingent of CWG 2010 before commencement of the mega event. Cash prizes were distributed amongst 187 athletes which included individuals and team events.
To honour the commitment, a function was organized by Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) on Nov08, 2010 at Hotel Le-meridian wherein Hon'ble Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Mr. Murli Deora was the Chief Guest and Minister of State Mr. Jitin Prasada was the Guest of Honour.

Prominent among others dignitaries were Mr. S. Sundareshan, Secretary, Petroleum & Natural Gas and Chairman Petroleum Sports Board (PSPB), Mr. Sudhir Bhargava, Addl. Secretary, MoP&NG, Mr. P.K. Sinha, Addl. Secretary & Financial Advisor, MoP&NG, Mr. R.S. Sharma, CMD, ONGC & 'President PSPB besides CMDs & Directors of member organizations of PSPB. Mr. Kapil Dev, the famous cricketer was a special invitee to the function.

ONGC had a noticeable presence in the CWG 2010 achievers and had 10 medals to its kitty, which included 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze.
CWG 2010 has been a stupendous success for our country and it was made memorable by our athletics who performed outstandingly winning 38 Gold medals, 27 Silver medals and 36 Bronze Medals.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sundareshan, Secretary, MoP&NG said that he has been a great sports lover and himself played a couple of games which he started at a very young age of 7 yrs and continued till 23 yrs. He continues to play golf very actively even now. He appreciated the efforts put in by Indian sports persons which fetched the country a record haul of 101 medals. Mr Sundareshan also wished good luck to the Indian contingent for the Asian Games 2010.
Mr. R.S. Sharma, CMD ONGC and President PSPB was all praise for the Hon'ble Minister Mr. Murli Deora for being the main force behind the great gesture of honouring the sports persons with cash prizes. He explained how the idea originated and was given the final nod in a very short time despite him and Secretary P&NG being away from Delhi, coordinating all activities on phone. The pride was amply visible on his face when he handed over Gold Medal performance cheque to three ONGC girls of 4x400 mts relay event.
The famous duo of Charu Sharma and Mandira Bedi who were 'Emcee' of the evening, enthralled the audience with their witty remarks during the ceremony.
